Dehradun, Apr 29 (KNN) With an objective to identify the skill gaps in pharmaceutical sector in the state and develop industry academia linkages, the Uttarakhand Science Education and Research Centre (USERC), Department of Science and Technology, organised a brainstorming session on assessing skill gaps in the pharmaceutical sector.

The programme was organised with cooperation from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in Dehradun, a media report said.

Addressing the gathering, the USERC director Vijay Kumar Dhaundiyal emphasised the need to equip youth with skills suited for employment in the pharmaceutical sector and ensuring the role of the youth in facilitating the availability of herbal resources and their use.

CII Uttarakhand chairman Manu Kochhar said that the confederation is looking forward to working with the authorities in extending skill gap workshops to other sectors as well such as automobile, auto-components, electronic and electrical.

He apprised the participants that the shortage of appropriately skilled manpower across many industries is emerging as a significant and complex challenge to Uttarakhand’s growth and future.

He said Uttarakhand required industry’s involvement in curriculum development, training of students, workplace learning and vocational guidance.

Prabhakar Bebni from (NRLM) said that the Aajeevika project would cooperate in the effort to enable the youth of the state with skills to make them eligible for employment in the pharmaceutical sector.

The CII panel on MSME and Industrial Development convener Vipul Dawar highlighted the confederation’s initiatives in the state on skill development.

Based on the recommendations of the workshop USERC will design industry specific training programmes.  Apart from government officials, representatives of various pharmaceutical companies also conveyed their views on the occasion. (KNN/ST)
