CAIT condemns Zomato for bringing recent incident in light with a detailed statement

New Delhi, Aug 3 (KNN) This week when Zomato came in news after one of its customer tweeted saying he had asked Zomato to cancel his order after he saw that the delivery was executed by a Muslim. In response to this, Zomato denied canceling it and tweeted, "food has no religion."

Afterward, the tweet accumulated traffic on twitter where several people praised it. In flip to this, some also tweeted calling Zomato a hypocrite, as the delivery company had tagged the food as halal on its app.

While condemning the attitude of Zomato in the instant case, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said it was wise on the part of Zomato to cancel the delivery respecting the consumer preference but absolutely there was no need for Zomato to bring such incident in light with a detailed statement.

According to CAIT, it gave an opportunity to a certain section of the people to hype the issue on communal lines.

National President of CAIT, Praveen Khandelwal said “On the basis of communal lines, some interested people have made the issue of Zomato even when it’s not an issue. It is most unfortunate that these interested people are trying to divide the trade and commerce in through this.”

CAIT strongly condemn such efforts for bringing a bad name to trade and affirm that the traders in the Country will not allow anyone to break the harmony prevailing in trade. The association repeated that business is the one prominent section in the Country which is mostly secular, he added.

He said “It seems that Zomato has committed such a mistake in its lust for getting publicity. A case should be registered against Zomato for attempting to disrupt communal harmony in the country.”

CAIT said that this incident has raised a question if Zomato has complied with rules and regulations of Food Safety & Standard Act and Rules which states that the vehicle which carries the food should have a license, the person carrying the food should have a medical test and he should possess the medical certificate with him. The container carrying food should be properly hygiene. It is also to be noted whether the police verification of delivery boy has been done or not and all these complains lies on Zomato”.

CAIT asked the Union Health Minister Dr. Harshvardhan to issue a notice to Zomato and other similar companies because most of them are not following the rules of FSSAI and police verification of delivery boy in case of online sale is never done.
