CAIT refuses to join hands with e-commerce giants

New Delhi, Nov 9 (KNN) Media reports which claimed that the Indian government wants e-commerce players to make offline trade a part of their growth seems to be proving wrong as the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has rejected idea and said that there is no question of joining hands with any business entity who is not following the policy of the Government and law of the land.

''If the reports is correct then it is most surprising that instead of directing such e-commerce companies to fall in line with the policy, the Government is encouraging them to continue with their existing business model,'' CAIT said in a release.

“If at all need arises, instead of e-commerce companies, CAIT will be more inclined to join hands with any domestic e-commerce or big retailer to protect offline trade,” Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary-General, CAIT, said in a statement.

However, CAIT had announced a nation-wide protest against e-commerce platforms last week alleging issues like predatory pricing and deep discounting.

CAIT National President  B C Bhartia said that the CAIT will strongly pursue with the Government to roll out draft of e-commerce policy soon and will also demand formation of either a regulatory mechanism to monitor and regulate Indian e-commerce trade or constitute an "e-commerce ombudsman" duly armed with the powers to impose penal action in cases of violation of e commerce policy.
