Call for entries: Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Awards

The Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award for the year 2013 which is one of the most prestigious awards for organisations that have make a mark in quality, will be given in early 2015 at the highest level by the government, a press notification said.
Last date for applications is August-31, 2014.
As far as the category of awards are concerned, there will be one award each for large scale and medium small micro enterprise engaged in manufacturing; and one each for large scale and medium small micro enterprise among service organisations. This works out to two awards of Rs two lakh each.
In addition, there will be commendation certificates given – one each for large scale and medium small micro enterprise (manufacturing) and one each for large scale and medium small micro enterprise (service organisation). As many as 28 such awards of Rs one lakh each will be given.
Besides, there will be a Best of All award worth Rs 5 lakhs.
Sectors eligible to apply for the award in manufacturing are biotechnology, chemical, electrical and electronic, food and drug, gems, jewellery and allied industry, metallurgical, textile, engineering industry and others.
In the services sector, organisations involved in education, finance, health care, information technology, utilities are eligible to apply.
Organisations in these sectors that have been in existence for at least three years as on March-31, 2013 are eligible for the award.
Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award was instituted by the Bureau of Indian Standards in 1991, to give special recognition to those manufacturing and service organizations who are considered to be the leaders of quality movement in India. It is intended to generate interest and involvement of Indian Industry in quality programmes, drive Indian products and services to higher levels of quality and equip such organizations to meet the challenges of domestic and international markets.
The award would help in improving quality by encouraging Indian industry to make significant improvements in quality for maximizing consumer satisfaction and for successfully facing competition in the global market as well; recognizing the achievements of those organizations which have improved the quality of their products and services and thereby set an example for others; establishing guidelines and criteria that can be used by industry in evaluating their own quality improvement efforts; and providing specific guidance to other organizations that wish to learn how to achieve excellence in quality, by making available detailed information on the ‘Quality Management Approach’ adopted by award winning organizations to change their culture and achieve eminence.
