Carpet makers of Panipat, Rajasthan showcasing products to global buyers at Delhi fair

The 27th edition of India Carpet Expo was inaugurated here yesterday by Foreign Trade Director General of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Anup K Pujari.
The 4 day event is a world acclaimed exhibition of handmade carpets and other floor coverings in South East Asia, where 255 exhibitors from UP, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Panipat, Delhi etc are displaying their latest designs of products.
The council has said the India Carpet Expo is not only bringing the largest business opportunity to all segments of carpet exporters, beginning from the smallest to the biggest exporter, but it also provides ‘unique pick and choose’ business opportunity to all kinds of overseas carpet buyers, retailers or wholesalers under one roof.
According to a release from Carpet Export Promotion Council, (CEPC) as many as 350 overseas buyers from more than 50 countries including USA, Germany, France, Italy, U.K., Turkey, Brazil, China, Canada, Denmark, Japan, Korea etc are participating in the fair.
The Indian handmade carpet industry is highly labour intensive and provides employment to about 2 million workers directly and indirectly in the rural areas especially women in their homes.
It is ranked number one in the international market, exporting 70-75 per cent of total production and for the first time crossed the mark of US Dollar one billion in the year 2012-13. (KNN/ST)
