Central Bank of India signs MOU with NABARD to manufacture sanitary pads in each district
New Delhi, Jan 9 (KNN) Central Bank of India (CBI) and NAB Foundation a subsidiary of NABARD, on Friday signed an MOU for providing working capital finance to women SHGs for making sanitary pads under the MY PAD MY RIGHT project.
The MoU was executed by Sundeep Gulati, General Manager (ARD-FI) Central Bank of India and Sanjeev D Rohilla, CEO NABFoundation in the presence of Pallav Mohapatra, Managing Director& CEO Central Bank of India and Alok Srivastava, Executive Director Central Bank of India and Rosie Tshering, Country Head Microfinance NABARD.
''The project will provide a sustainable livelihood opportunity to over 14700 rural women SHGmembers in 3000 villages across India. Through this programme women will earn a living while also taking care of basic menstrual hygiene,'' the bank said in a statement.
''The project will enable rural women to access pads in a safe, accessible and familiar environment through their own network on a regular basis. The project addresses challenges of affordability and local availability comprehensively,'' it added.
NABARD is providing one machine for making sanitary pads in each district to one SHG. These SHGs need working capital support of Rs.50,000/- to Rs.80,000/- a month,
Central Bank of India in collaboration with NAB Foundation will be providing the required working capital support to the SHGs as per prescribed norms for this programme, it said.
