Centre seeks better power regime from States for Mega Textile Parks scheme

New Delhi, Sept 1 (KNN) The central government has urged States where mega textile parks will be set up to adopt a better power regime.

It has asked states to submit a long-term estimate for power tariffs that would be charged at these parks ahead of the selection under Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) scheme, reported Live Mint.

The scheme was announced in the Budget 2021 to make the textile industry globally competitive.

It was given a budget of Rs 4,445 crore for seven years up to 2027-28 and approval of seven such parks is pending.

A government official told Live Mint that government has almost finalized the states where mega textile parks will be set up.

“But we are trying to get a few things fr0m the states by way of concessions. We are trying to get states to agree to a better power regime. In some states, the cost of power is quite high and we are trying to get it reduced,” said the official.

States have been asked to provide a 15 years long-term roadmap of the power tariff that will be charged at these textile parks.

The government has urged them to refrain fr0m raising power charges for 15 years and are also looking for some kind of a projection regarding the same.  (KNN Bureau)
