Kolkata, Feb 20 (KNN)  In an effort to bring accuracy to metre reading, Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited is planning to implement automated metre reading (AMR) and smart metering system in its licensed areas here.

The corporation will soon install single phase AMR enabled energy metre for direct measurement of single phase alternating current energy at standard frequency of 50 HZ and associated communication hardware and software.

AMR is the technology used in utility meters for collecting the data that's needed for billing, troubleshooting, and analysing.

The technology can provide benefits for utilities, retail providers and customers by translating the movement of the mechanical dials on a meter into a digital signal. It does not require physical access or visual inspection.

In this regard, the corporation is seeking partnership from manufacturers based in private power distribution utilities in India or other developed countries to be service provider.

Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation or CESC is an Indian electricity generation and the sole distribution company serving 567 square kilometres of area administered by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation in the city of Kolkata, as well as parts of Howrah, Hooghly, and 24 Parganas North and South districts in the state of West Bengal. It serves 2.5 million consumers which includes domestic, industrial and commercial users. (KNN/ST)
