Coir Board to modernise operations with new technology

Kochi, Feb 6 (KNN)  The Coir Board is planning to modernise its functions and operations with the use of new technology in production activities such as spinning, weaving and processing.

The board wants to adopt modern processing techniques in the facilities at Goa, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands.

It will soon be appointing consultants to conduct survey on husk utilisation and scope for the proposed project.

Towards this, the board has invited bids from experienced agencies to take up the work.

The Coir Board has been taking initiatives to modernize the industry by adoption of modern technology in production and processing of coir in the spinning and weaving sectors.

A scheme on rejuvenation, modernisation and technology upgradation of the coir industry was launched during 2007-08 to facilitate the sustainable development of the spinning and household weaving units of the industry by providing proper work sheds and enabling replacement of traditional age old ratts with motorised ratts in the spinning sector and replacement of traditional looms with the mechanised looms.
