Coir Kranthi Express - a road show from Kanyakumari to Kashmir

New Delhi, Nov 8 (KNN) The Coir Kranthi Express, a cross country road show to popularize coir products mainly produced by the small sector, will reach the national capital on November-25, coinciding with the world coir fair to be held here.

A specially-decorated bus that celebrates the diamond jubilee of the Coir Board, the Coir Kranthi Express began its three month journey on Tuesday.  Flagged off from Kanyakumari, it displays varied coir products, including geo-textiles and handicrafts.

It also features an audio-visual show and an art exhibition that explains the history, current projects and future perspectives of the Coir Board.

Among the products showcased are curtains, jackets, children's frocks, bags, slippers and umbrella.  A photo exhibition portraying the beginning and growth of the coir board is an added attraction.

However, the highlight of the road how will be its Delhi leg on November-25, which will coincide with the world coir fair that the board is organizing in the capital from November 14-30.  The event will feature product sales, exhibition and seminars on coir to be held at Pragati Maidan, Chetanalaya and Dilli Haat.

India exported coir products worth Rs 1,116 crore in 2012-13.  The Coir Board now plans to open 1,000 sales outlets across India to boost sales.

Further, on November-25, Vigyan Bhavan will organise a buyer-seller meet with the participation of coir importers and buying agents.  Many foreign importers and delegates will participate in the event.

Besides, the Board will organize both international and national seminars on novel coir products for three days from November 25 at Chetanalaya; and a workshop on women empowerment in coir industry would be held on November-28.

The express will reach Kochi in Kerala in the first week of February after crossing 17 states. (KNN/SD)
