Commerce Dept to form a dedicated trade promotion body

New Delhi, Aug 24 (KNN) The Department of Commerce will set up a dedicated trade promotion body for overall promotion related strategy to work towards the goal of USD 2 trillion exports by 2030, said Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Tuesday.

The body will look after execution as part of a restructuring exercise, reported Business Standard.

It will curate and drive overall trade promotion strategy and focus on expanding India’s branding across markets and sectors.

The body will hold buyer-seller meet and develop digital platforms for exporters and buyers.

The Commerce Department has already implemented some of the recommendations from the 14-volume ‘restructuring dossier’ by the Boston Consulting Group.

In the revamped structure, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) will be positioned as a nodal entity to carry out trade regulation and facilitation.

An e-governance division is proposed in DGFT to ensure sharp focus on digitisation of internal and exporter-focused processes.  (KNN Bureau)
