Construction industry procurement to go up to USD 200 bn in 12th Plan

New Delhi, Jul 8 (KNN) The Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) , an autonomous body set by the Planning Commission, has said that procurement of goods and services by the construction industry will increase from USD 70 billion to USD 200 billion in the 12th Plan throwing commensurate opportunities in the industry. 

CIDC is enrolling consultants, manufacturers of materials, accessories, consumables and contractors for providing services or manpower for construction of river bridge, highway bridges and structures, tracks for railways, sports stadia, industrial buildings, residential and commercial complexes, piling located at various locations across India and other South Asian Nations etc, CIDC said in a press notification today.

Keeping in view, the focus of the government, on providing impetus to infrastructure development, a tremendous opportunity exists in the development process by supplying goods and services to the major project owners and their contractors and service providers and to meet the same, CIDC is preparing a database of stakeholders, it said.

“The task is very large in volume and scope with corresponding increase in procurement of goods and services, increasing from the present annual level of USD 70 billion to over USD 200 billion per annum in the 12th plan,” the notification added.

CIDC and UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) have signed a MoU to set up a Centre of Excellence for PPP projects in roads and highways. CIDC has been mandated by UNECEP to form this database. (KNN/SD)
