New Delhi, Oct 27 (KNN)  The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has issued a notification by which contributions made by corporates and business houses to two new initiatives of the government namely Clean India (Swachh Bharat) and Clean Ganga will be considered as corporate social responsibility and hence tax free.

In a notification of October-24, the Ministry made amendments to Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013 which it said will come into force with immediate effect.

“…contribution to the Swachh Bharat Kosh set-up by the Central Government for the promotion of sanitation” and “contribution to the Clean Ganga Fund set-up by the Central Government for rejuvenation of River Ganga,” shall be inserted, it said in the notification.

The move is a step towards widening the activities that come under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) ambit.

Both Swachh Bharat – to clean India and Clean Ganga are initiatives of the new government at the centre.  (KNN/ES)
