Cottage industry grapples with problems in credit access, delay in loans

New Delhi, Aug 7 (KNN) The Minister of Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) K H Muniyappa has said that cottage industries are facing problems related to inadequate credit access, delay in disbursement of loans, insufficient marketing facilities and competition from multinational companies.

“Constraints presently being faced by cottage industries mainly relate to inadequate credit access, delay in disbursement of loans by banks, inadequate marketing facilities and competition from multinational companies,” he said today.

Meanwhile, the Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) has exported products worth Rs 80 crore while the coir sector has shipped goods worth Rs 1116 crore till now.
It is estimated that KVI and coir industry have generated 124.79 and 7.10 lakhs jobs respectively in 2012-13.  

Further, under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), a total of 2.21 lakh micro enterprises have been assisted with a margin money subsidy of Rs 4147.95 crore providing employment to an estimated 20.34 lakh persons since its inception till 2012-13. 

In the meantime, credit issues are taken up with banks on a continuing basis and issues relating to marketing are addressed through various schemes such as market development assistance, scheme of funds for regeneration of traditional industries and other development programme implemented by the ministry.
