CPWD puts its works on public domain for scrutiny and monitoring

New Delhi, Oct 18 (KNN) Increasing transparency in public works, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has placed in public domain full details of its 7,676 works costing Rs 40,679 crore on its website www.cpwd.gov.in.

“CPWD’s move comes in compliance with the direction of the Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu, who in a review meeting last month, expressed concern over delays in the execution of various projects and directed the construction major to open itself to public scrutiny and monitoring to ensure transparency,” Ministry of Urban Development has said in a release.

CPWD, on its website and under the icon ‘Details of Works’ has furnished full information about the ongoing works including name of the work, sanctioned amount and date, targeted date of completion, expenditure incurred as on date, name of the executing agency and CPWD’s Project Head with contact details, reasons for delay, if any.

CPWD’s website enables access to details project-wise, ministry-wise and state-wise. A provision has also been made for citizens to post a comment or complaint.

Currently, CPWD is executing 2,583 works at a total cost of Rs 24,969 crore out of these, 630 are more than Rs 5 crore each costing a total of Rs 22,174 crore of these 630 projects, 112 are progressing as per schedule while 194 are delayed by more than two years, 122 by one to two years, 84 are delayed by 6-12 months while another 118 are running behind the schedule by up to six months.

The remaining works include request received, sanctions to be issued and still to be awarded. (KNN/SD)
