The meeting held here yesterday was chaired by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism and Culture, Shripad Yesso Naik.
“Coordination issues in existing projects should be sorted out and both Ministries should take up new projects in which they can converge,” Naik said.
During the meeting, several areas of convergence were identified jointly by officers of both the ministries.
Naik specifically mentioned the areas of organizing festivals of India, road shows, projects related to archaeological monuments and heritage sites, ‘Clean India’ campaign and publicity and image building and building ‘Brand India’.
Other areas of convergence identified during the meeting were: Ministry of Culture will conclude MoUs with Ministry of Tourism and various State Governments for improvement of visitor amenities at Monuments and Heritage Sites.
Further, the Ministry of Tourism will ensure publicity wherever Festivals of India are organized; provide publicity material to missions abroad, allow tour operators to set up counters at festival venues. In this context, both ministries will collaborate for food festivals and coordinate with Indian Council for Culture Relations (ICCR).
In addition, a common calendar will be developed for Road Shows and Festival of India. Focus will also be given to certain festivals that are promoted by the Ministry of Culture, such as Decennial Exposition of St. Francis Xavier, Goa in the month of November 2014 for which publicity will be organized in Lusophone Countries and in target countries like Russia, England and Israel; as also the Nabakalevara Festival at Puri Jagannath Temple in June 2015.
It was also decided to revise admission fees of ASI protected monuments; review charges for film shooting; initiate e-ticketing in collaboration with travel booking sites; while the Archaeological Survey of India will prepare signages after consultation with Ministry of Tourism.
Significantly, Ministry of Tourism’s ‘Clean India’ campaign will be implemented in monuments under ASI in a phased manner; and tourist circuits such as Gandhi Heritage Circuit and Buddhist Circuit will be developed.
There will also be a Joint-Action Plan for a guide training programme. (KNN/ST)
