Cumulative exports from Indian MSMEs & brands cross USD 2 bn through Amazon

New Delhi, July 20 (KNN) E-commerce giant Amazon on Monday announced that Indian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and brands that are part of its Global Selling Programme (GSP) have crossed USD 2 billion in cumulative exports.

Launched with just a few hundred sellers in May 2015, today this program has over 60,000 Indian exporters from different parts of the country taking ‘Made in India’ products global.

In January this year, Amazon had pledged to enable USD 10 billion in cumulative exports by 2025 and now the company has now set a target of $10 billion in exports from India by 2025.

''We will continue to empower Indian MSMEs at Amazon. We are committed to digitise 10 million MSMEs, create 1 million incremental jobs and drive USD 10 billion in E-commerce exports by 2025," said Amit Agarwal, senior vice-president & country head, Amazon India, at the launch of the third edition of Amazon Exports Digest.

Agarwal further said that MSME are the backbone of the nation and Amazon is digitally empowering these enterprises, helping to boost exports, create more jobs and helping to further the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He also said that exports will continue to play a critical role in this revival. GSP is helping local go global.

''This is more important than ever for our small businesses, and for the nation, as it recovers from an unprecedented time. We will continue to empower Indian MSMEs to realise their potential and make exports easy," he added.

Agarwal also suggested that products exported through GSP can be classified as micro, small and medium and making separate categories for handloom, handicrafts and agro-MSMEs.

Amazon Global Selling enables more than 60,000 Indian exporters to sell millions of ‘Made in India’ products to customers worldwide through its 15 international websites in countries such as USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, Australia and Singapore. In 2019, more than 800 Indian MSMEs on the program surpassed $131, 375 (Rs 1 crore) in e-commerce exports sales.

Amazon has provided a great platform for small and medium business owners to sell their product. Technology has helped people showcase their products. The times are tough where direct selling has become increasingly difficult. In such cases, if people can do business online, then it should help them and their dependents to cope with this crisis.
