India, Zambia Join Hands For Manufacturing Of Defence Equipment

New Delhi, Oct 21 (KNN) India and Zambia has decided to join hands to explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly in the manufacturing of small arms, ammunition, and other defence equipment.

This strategic move was discussed during a meeting between the Defence Secretary of India, Giridhar Aramane, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence in Zambia, Norman Chipakupaku, which took place in New Delhi on October 20, 2023.

A  15-member delegation from Zambia is currently visiting India with the aim to deepen their defence ties and broaden their collaboration in the defence sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation, inked between India and Zambia in 2019, provides a comprehensive framework for various defence collaborations. This MoU has paved the way for a promising future in defence cooperation, ensuring mutual benefits for both nations.

During the meeting, India’s Defence Secretary assured Zambia of full-fledged support, including military training and capacity building for the Zambian defence forces, reported FE.

This support will be extended through a series of military courses and the deployment of Indian training teams. The commitment to strengthening Zambia’s defence capabilities demonstrates India’s dedication to fostering security and stability in the region.

Aramane also highlighted the exceptional capabilities of Indian defence industries, covering a broad spectrum of operations under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

This initiative has not only bolstered India’s domestic defence production but also has made it a reliable partner in providing cost-effective and high-quality defence equipment to its allies, including Zambia.

Norman Chipakupaku, the Permanent Secretary of Defence for Zambia, expressed his appreciation for the advancements made by Indian defence industries and eagerly anticipated their support in providing modern, cost-effective equipment to enhance the Zambian defence forces’ capabilities.

As part of this diplomatic exchange, the Zambian delegation engaged with Indian defence establishments and toured various manufacturing facilities, including those in the public and private sectors.

Moreover, the interaction extended to mutual areas of interest, including defence cooperation activities.
