PM Modi to inaugurate largest Indian helicopter manufacturing unit in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Feb 6 (KNN) As an effort to boost ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in the defence manufacturing sector, India’s largest helicopter manufacturing facility is set up at Tumakuru in Karnataka.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) manufacturing unit today (February 6). 

It is spread across 615 acres which will initially produce the light utility helicopters (LUH) followed by light combat helicopters (LCH) and later the Indian multirole helicopters (IMRH).

In the range of 3-15 tonne HAL plans to produce more than 1,000 helicopters.

It aims for a total business of more than Rs 4 lakh crore over a period of 20 years.

“Besides generating direct and indirect employment, the Tumakuru facility will boost the development of surrounding areas through its CSR activities with large-scale community-centric programmes on which the company will spend substantial amounts,” the ministry said last week.  (KNN Bureau)
