Technologically advanced MSMEs needed for self-reliant Indian defence sector: TIIC

Coimbatore, May 19 (KNN) The Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation Limited (TIIC) chairman and managing director Hans Raj Verma on Thursday said that there is a compelling need for India to be self-reliant in its capabilities and meet the requirements for defence forces.

Addressing the seminar titled Accelerating Defence and Aerospace Industry in TN Defence Corridor, Verma said, “All the stakeholders be it the government, industry and academia have to collectively contribute to enhance the capabilities of the country in defence manufacturing.”

“We want the MSMEs to be relevant, contemporary and competitive for which Technology is imperative which all the MSME must negotiate and master,” he said.

L B Krishnamoorthy, special secretary and project director of TIDCO said that due to ban on import of around 400 arms and ammunitions products, there is a huge opportunity for domestic industry to flourish.

Rajesh R, chairman, Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers, TN State Chapter said, “the aim of the seminar is to sensitize the local industries in the region about the immense business opportunities available with various defence establishments and large private industries in the defence and aerospace sector, and to make Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC), a hub for defence manufacturing in the country.”

The seminar was organised by Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation Ltd (TIIC) and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO).  (KNN Bureau)
