UK keen to offer manufacturing support for Indian jet engines
Gandhinagar, Oct 25 (KNN) The U.K. government is willing to support the indigenisation of design and manufacture of Indian jet engines, said Alex Ellis, the U.K. High Commissioner in India pitching for a joint partnership.
“I don’t think any other partner in the world has offered this up to now,” Ellis told The Hindu.
This proposal comes as India considers offers from top engine manufacturers globally to jointly develop an aero-engine for its future indigenous fighter jets.
Both the counties announced a new defence industry joint working group at the recently held Defence Expo.
The group aims to strengthen defence collaboration which also held its first meeting.
Ellis said that U.K. brings high levels of expertise and technology in everything from missiles to engines.
“What India can bring is huge scale, and of course a significant market. And all has to be done through the prism of Make in India and Make for the World. So, what I’d also like to see is not only British companies tying up with Indian companies but also looking at how they can export,” he told The Hindu.
Ellis said that the engine maker Rolls- Royce is ready to do and the British government is ready to support. (KNN Bureau)
