Nashik, Feb 20 (KNN)  Nashik Engineering Cluster (NEC) together with the National Institute of Design (NID) is facilitating a ‘Design Clinic Scheme for micro, small and medium enterprises’ to support design initiatives for improvement in products.

The initiative is a part of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP).

“The aim of the project is to provide design initiative for improvements in products, processes, communication, ergonomics, packaging and many other system level activities through design support and interventions,” NEC said.

The scheme would go a long way to enhance industry competitiveness and productivity with the help of design intervention and application at various functional levels. The Design Clinic Scheme is structured to provide design related help through design awareness seminars, design awareness programmes and design projects.

Significantly, the scheme provides help through financial assistance at different stages for better implementation of scheme and design awareness.

With an outlay of about Rs 3 crore, the project to be set up at NEC’s facility in Satpur industrial estate of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will be funded by the central government and be operational in a year.

Sectors identified for the clinic are electric, electronic, automobile and machine tools.  It will be equipped with advanced equipment and technical expertise that will create value addition to existing products and services.

Nashik is home to two industrial estates of MIDC - Satpur and Ambad with around 3,500 MSMEs.  The industries in the district are largely based on electric and automobile sectors.

National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad will be the nodal agency for implementation of the scheme. Nashik Engineering Cluster will facilitate the scheme and provide a platform for MSMEs for proposals and implementation.

In this context, NEC had organized a Design Awareness Seminar for MSME representatives, entrepreneurs, project/engineering/design heads, consultants and academia to create awareness about the scheme, structure and the benefits including financial assistance to the projects, on February-17.   (KNN/ES)
