DGAD launches anti-dumping probe against paper imports from Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore

New Delhi, Nov 13 (KNN) Eyeing at protecting the domestic industry against unhealthy competition, the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has launched an investigation into imports of a variant of paper from three countries including Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.

The probe comes as a response to the complaints raised by domestic manufacturers including the West Coast Paper Mills, Tamil Nadu Newsprint, Papers Ltd, Ballarpur Industries demanding investigation into imports of 'Uncoated Paper' from the three mentioned countries.

Responding to the plea, the DGAD in a statement informed that it has found "sufficient prima facie evidence" of dumping of such paper from these countries and therefore the investigation can run.

The protection comes in an attempt to  safeguard domestic players in the paper sector against cheap imports from these rival countries.

"The authority hereby initiates an investigation into the alleged dumping, and consequent injury to the domestic industry," the notification added.

At present India has already imposed anti-dumping duty on several products to tackle cheap imports from different countries including China. (KNN/DA)
