DGFT allows export of all alcohol-based hand sanitizers

New Delhi, June 2 (KNN) The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has now allowed export of all alcohol-based hand sanitizers, except those exported in containers with dispenser pumps.

The Ministry of Commerce has issued a notification to amend export policy of hand sanitizers.

“The Notification No. 04 dated 06.05.2020 is amended to the extent that only ‘Alcohol-based Hand Sanitizers’ exported in containers with the Dispenser Pump, falling under any ITCHS Code including the HS Codes ex3004 ex3401 ex3402 380894, are prohibited for export. Alcohol-based Hand Sanitizers exported in any other form/packaging are ‘free’ for exports, with the immediate effect,” said the Ministry of Commerce notification.

It added that all other items falling under the above HS codes are freely exportable. Sanitizers are used as a disinfectant to prevent the spread of virus.

On May 6, the government had lifted ban on the export of non-alcoholic sanitizers that was in place since March 24 but prohibited exports of alcohol-based sanitizers to boost its availability in the domestic market amid corona virus pandemic.

According to estimates, India had exported sanitizers worth USD 485 million in 2018-19.
