New Delhi, May 2 (KNN) Commerce Ministry has extended enhanced benefit for some Merchandise Export from India Scheme (MEIS) items classifiable under Handicrafts sector.

In a notification, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said, “Some MEIS entries classifiable under the Handicrafts sector are included for enhanced benefit under the MEIS, for the exports made in the period November 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.

DGFT has notified new rates for the items eligible under the scheme under the said period.

The products that have been included under the scheme includes – Attars of all kinds in fixed oilbase, candles, Paperboard, clay articles, bangles, glass statues, bells, gongs and the likes etc.

In a separate notification, DGFT clarified that only the service categories which have been notified in Appendix 3D for Services Export from India Scheme (SEIS) are allowed for claim under the scheme. It is immaterial whether these notified services are delivered on an IT enabled platforms or otherwise.

The move comes after DGFT has received representations from some SEZs, Regional Authorities and Trade bodies over the eligibility of IT/ ITeS under the SEIS.

It said after examining, it has been found that Appendix 3D does not mention any service as IT/ ITeS service and only has a positive list of services, with a CPC Provisional code which has been made eligible for claiming benefit under SEIS. (KNN Bureau)
