New Delhi, Nov 21 (KNN)  Another casualty of the economic slowdown is India's steel production which slowed to 2.8 per cent in January-October 2013 compared to the previous year, according to data from the World Steel Association (WSA).

A WSA report showed that India produced 66.387 million tonnes steel during the first ten months of the current year compared to 64.556 MT in the corresponding period in 2012, higher than its previous year which produced 61.077 million tonnes.

The WSA data showed the monthly records of the 65 countries which produced approximately 99 per cent of the total world crude steel production. China is on top of the list with a production output of 652.480 during January-October 2013 followed by Japan at 91.953 during the same period.

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world.  Worldsteel represents approximately 170 steel producers (including 17 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes.  Worldsteel members represent around 85 per cent of world steel production.   (KNN/ST)
