New Delhi, Mar 14 (KNN) As the new Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) is expected to be launched on April 2, 2016, the industry is expecting some "much needed" changes in the new policy.

Talking to KNN, the President of  Defence and Strategic Industries Association of India, PC Tripathi said the new defence procurement policy will come up with several new changes which includes categories of products to be imported and the products to be procured from local players.

Few days back during the Make in India summit which took place in Mumbai,  Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the DPP would give priority to indigenous manufacturers under the Make in India initiative but it wouldn’t be a mandatory condition to award contracts.

Technology transformation will be the major part of it and Government can allow higher limits for the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), Tripathi said adding that the new policy would modernise the defence forces.

Elaborating further, the defence expert said that Defence Expo will take place in Goa where 46 countries are expected to take part of this.

Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry said that with more than 977 companies and 46countries are registering for the upcoming Defence Expo scheduled in Goa.

"Defexpo India 2016, the ninth in the series of biennial Land, Naval and Internal Homeland Security Systems Exhibition, will be held at Naqueri Quitol in Quepem taluka of South Goa from March 28-31, 2016.

This is for the first time that the Expo is being held in Goa rather that New Delhi. (KNN Bureau)
