New Delhi, Jul 29 (KNN)  In the backdrop of complaints from units about the pathetic state of infrastructure in industrial estates, DSIIDC had undertaken the re-development and up-grading of Bawana and Narela industrial areas here, both of which are almost complete.

“The deadline to finish work at both industrial areas was December this year. But Narela will be ready by August and Bawana too ahead of time,” said a press release from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC).

The work for the upgradation of the industrial estates was assigned on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in 2011.   It included roads, parking spaces, drains, sewage, water lines, electrical work, as well as horticulture.  While the work at Bawana cost Rs 57 crore, at Narela it amounted to Rs 130 crore.

On visiting both the industrial areas to inspect work in progress, Delhi Industry Minister Haroon Yusuf, described the quality of work as world class, it said.

The concessionaire responsible for redevelopment and up-grade shall maintain the services of these areas for another 13 years after construction.

Spread over 1,922 acres, the Bawana industrial area comprises of 16,312 industrial units.  Narela industrial area on the other hand is spread over 612 acres, housing about 3,000 industries.

Both the areas have units that deal with plastic goods, food items, medicines, steel, cardboard, electrical and electronic goods, and office furniture.

Meanwhile, DSIIDC has also started upgradation of infrastructure work at Patparganj and Okhla Phase III industrial areas, the cost of construction and maintenance estimated at approximately Rs 9.4 crore and Rs 6.54 crore respectively.  This too is expected to be completed in six months.

Other work in the pipeline is concerned with roads and drains in Naraina Industrial Area Phase II and Rajasthani Udyog Nagar, both of which are expected to start in the first week of August.  (KNN)
