New Delhi 12 Aug (KNN) In an effort to tap African markets for export of electronics, the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) is evolving a multi-pronged strategy.

The strategy that factors in inputs from all stakeholders, industry, government and the trading community has clearly delineated a country-specific approach for increasing penetration into these markets.  It will be ready soon, said a statement by ESC.

“Coupled with merchandize trade close to USD 70 billion with Africa which can go up to USD 100 billion, the region is of paramount importance for growth of the Indian electronics and information technology sector,” said Executive Director of ESC, D K Sareen.

Some of the African countries have a steady demand for electronics and electrical items like radios, loud speaker systems, micro phones etc.

“It is time that India focus on these items for domestic manufacturing as by 2020 our electronics imports will reach a dizzy sum of USD 400 billion,” said Co-Chairman of ESC Africa Committee Suresh Madan.

The ESC’s Africa strategy will divide the continent into five regions. The primer to compendium analysis will contain databases on import and export etc. (KNN/GUNJ)
