New Delhi, Dec 6 (KNN) In a strategic move to reduce import dependence and support domestic manufacturing, the Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA) and the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association (IESA) have announced a partnership to establish a Centre of Excellence (ECoE) focused on sensor technologies.
The collaborative initiative aims to address India's growing sensor market, which is currently valued at approximately Rs 20,000 crore and projected to reach Rs 31,000 crore by 2027.
By leveraging advanced technologies including MEMS, NEMS, Infrared, Ultraviolet, and Laser technologies, the partnership seeks to transform India into a global leader in sensor manufacturing and innovation.
Currently, over 90 per cent of India's sensor requirements are imported, a statistic the partnership intends to dramatically reduce.
The ECoE will concentrate on sensor design, manufacturing, and applications, aligning with the broader national objective of becoming a ‘Product Nation’ with a robust electronics ecosystem.
IESA President Ashok Chandak emphasised the critical nature of this collaboration, highlighting that sensors are essential across numerous applications.
The initiative aims to not only reduce import reliance but also contribute significantly to the growth of India's semiconductor and electronics sectors.
ELCIA President Sriram Kumar V described the partnership as an ambitious journey to create a comprehensive ecosystem that bridges industry and academia.
The collaboration is driven by a passion to support and transform the Indian electronics industry.
Dr. V Veerappan, Chairman, IESA, underscored the partnership's potential to build a robust ecosystem that will drive growth, generate employment opportunities, and promote research and development in the sensor domain.
The ultimate goal is to establish India as a hub for sensor manufacturing and technological innovation.
Initially focusing on industrial sensors, the partnership plans to utilise advanced analog and digital semiconductor technologies, with a particular emphasis on Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS) and Nano-electromechanical Systems (NEMS).
These technologies are crucial for developing sophisticated industrial sensors and provide a strong foundation for future expansion into diverse technological verticals.
Both ELCIA and IESA are committed to promoting a self-reliant future for India's electronics and sensor industry.
Through this strategic collaboration, they aim to position India as a significant global player in sensor technology, catering to both domestic and international markets.
