Govt Plans Multi-Crore PLI Scheme To Spur Domestic Electronics Production

New Delhi, Dec 10 (KNN) The Ministry of Information Technology and Electronics is preparing to present a comprehensive production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme to the Cabinet, signalling a strategic push to deepen India's domestic electronics manufacturing capabilities.

The proposed initiative aims to reduce the country's reliance on component imports from China and other competing economies, marking a significant step towards strengthening the national electronics supply chain.

According to high-level sources within the ministry, the draft Cabinet note is currently being finalised, with plans to introduce substantial financial incentives designed to encourage domestic component manufacturing.

The scheme is expected to offer significant financial support, potentially worth thousands of crores of rupees, with specific conditions tied to both incentive allocation and job creation.

Concurrent with the new PLI scheme, the government is also planning to extend the current import authorisation scheme for laptops by an additional three months beyond the end of this year.

A senior ministry official stated, "Work on the Cabinet note is progressing, and we intend to move on this front soon," indicating the government's commitment to accelerating domestic electronics manufacturing capabilities.

The proposed initiative represents a strategic effort to transform India's electronics manufacturing landscape, positioning the country to gain more substantial inroads into the global electronics component ecosystem.

By providing targeted financial incentives and creating a supportive regulatory environment, the government aims to attract investments and foster technological innovation in the domestic electronics sector.
