India exported Rs 6,911 cr PLI-backed telecom gear till May 31: MoS Chauhan

New Delhi, July 27 (KNN) Telecom equipment worth Rs 6,911 crore has been exported by companies selected under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme till May 31, 2023, the Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

The scheme was launched on February 24, 2021, to promote domestic manufacturing of specified telecom and networking products including 4G, 5G products, and also design-led manufacturing in the country.

“The companies under the scheme have made an export of Rs 6,911 crore up till May 31, 2023,” the minister said. 

India has designed and developed its own 4G/5G technology stacks and the deployment has started in state-run BSNL, he added. 

To promote the ecosystem for research & development and make India a global manufacturing hub, the government has taken various initiatives including PLI scheme, a telecom technology development fund scheme and digital communication innovation square (DCIS) under champion services sector scheme.

Referring to 5G services, he said so far, 2,81,948 5G sites have been set up by telecom operators.   (KNN Bureau)
