India’s First Indigenous Semiconductor Chip To Be Ready In 2025: Ashwini Vaishnaw
Hyderabad, Jul 24 (KNN) Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that India's first domestically manufactured semiconductor chip is anticipated to be released in 2025.
The minister made this statement during his address at the 85th foundation day celebrations of Keshav Memorial Educational Society in Hyderabad on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Vaishnaw emphasised India's growing position in the global semiconductor industry, highlighting that complex chip designs are already being developed in major Indian cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurugram, and Chennai.
The minister noted that while India has established itself as a design hub, the country is now transitioning into semiconductor manufacturing.
The government has approved six semiconductor manufacturing plants, with construction currently underway across these facilities.
"We will have the first Made in India chip in 2025," Vaishnaw stated, marking a significant milestone in India's technological self-reliance initiatives.
In addition to semiconductor development, the minister outlined progress in artificial intelligence initiatives under the India AI Mission.
The program includes the provision of free datasets and comprehensive training programs, with one million people currently being trained in AI applications and technologies.
Vaishnaw also presented an ambitious economic forecast, projecting that India will rank among the world's top two economies by 2047.
He attributed this potential growth to broader global economic shifts, observing that Western countries' traditional economic dominance is gradually being supplanted by nations in the ‘eastern hemisphere.’
The minister's announcement reflects India's strategic focus on developing domestic semiconductor capabilities as part of broader technology independence goals and economic development objectives.
