India’s Smartphone Exports Cross Rs 1 Lakh Cr In FY26

New Delhi, Sep 15 (KNN) India’s smartphone exports have exceeded Rs 1 lakh crore in the first five months of the current financial year (FY26), marking a new record, according to industry estimates.

The figure reflects a 55 per cent rise compared to the Rs 64,500 crore recorded during the same period in FY25, despite ongoing tariff and trade frictions with the United States.

Industry sources indicated that Apple’s contract manufacturers, Tata Electronics and Foxconn, accounted for nearly three-fourths of outbound shipments, contributing over Rs 75,000 crore to the total, according to The Economic Times.

The company’s expanded production in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has been supported by the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme, which has encouraged the shift of global supply chains into India.

A significant share of India’s smartphone exports has been directed to the US market.

In the first half of 2025, 78 per cent of iPhones assembled in India were shipped to the US, compared to 53 per cent in the previous year.

This trend has contributed to India capturing 44 per cent of the US smartphone import market, while China’s share declined sharply to 25 per cent, from 61 per cent in mid-2024.

Overall, shipments of Made-in-India smartphones grew by more than 240 per cent year-on-year. Alongside China and Vietnam, India is emerging as a key hub in global electronics manufacturing.

Companies such as Samsung and Motorola have also begun increasing their export share from India, though on a smaller scale compared to Apple.

Motorola continues to rely heavily on Chinese facilities, while Samsung’s primary base remains in Vietnam.

The growth reflects India’s rapid expansion in mobile manufacturing capacity. The country now hosts 300 mobile production units, a sharp rise from just two in 2014.

In FY14, only 26 per cent of mobile phones sold domestically were made in India; today, that figure stands at 99.2 per cent, according to government data.
