Karnataka To Establish Electronics Manufacturing Cluster In Mysuru

Bengaluru, Jul 8 (KNN) The Government of Karnataka has unveiled plans for a new electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC) in Mysuru district, aiming to bolster the state's semiconductor industry.

The project, set to be developed on 235.5 acres in the Kochanahalli Industrial Area, comes with an estimated cost of Rs 245.67 crore, not including land expenses.

The project will receive central financial assistance of Rs 122.83 crore from the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The cluster will primarily encourage semiconductor manufacturing, complementing Bengaluru's role as a semiconductor design hub. Several companies have already expressed interest in the project.

 Kaynes Technology India has proposed an investment of Rs 150 crore on 20 acres, while Gopalan Aerospace and Krypton India Solutions have proposed investments of Rs 200 crore on 50 acres and Rs 175 crore on 10 acres, respectively.

Additional investments have been proposed by Virtulive Technologies, Wuerth Electronik India, Proxelera, and LeePra Technologies.

The application and detailed project report have been submitted to the Centre. The Software Technology Park of India (STPI) completed a physical site inspection on May 28.

The EMC site boasts several infrastructure advantages, including proximity to the Kabini river, which ensures good water availability crucial for semiconductor manufacturing.

Nearby skill centers include Lahari common facility centre, CIPET Mysuru, and Karnataka German Technical Training Institute.

In terms of connectivity, the EMC is well-positioned, situated 6 km from Mysuru airport, 200 km from Bengaluru International Airport, and 275 km from Mangaluru Port.

This strategic location is expected to facilitate logistics and transportation for the cluster's operations.

The EMC scheme, notified by the Centre in April 2020, aims to address infrastructure challenges and foster a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. Karnataka's IT Minister, Priyank Kharge, emphasised the state's commitment to developing this sector, noting that companies have shown interest and land has been allotted.

As the project awaits final approval from MeitY, it represents a significant step in Karnataka's efforts to expand its role in India's growing semiconductor industry.

The establishment of this cluster in Mysuru is expected to create new opportunities for investment, employment, and technological advancement in the region.
