Tata to foray into semiconductor manufacturing in India within few years
Mumbai, Dec 9 (KNN) Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran told Nikkei Asia on Thursday that Tata Group will initiate producing semiconductors in India over the next few years.
Expressing the aspirations of the conglomerate, he told the Tokyo publication in an interview that the company plans to launch new businesses in emerging fields such as electric vehicles.
Referring to an electronic components manufacturer that the group founded in 2020, Chandrasekaran told Nikkei Asia that, “We have created Tata Electronics, under which we are going to set up semiconductor assembly testing business.”
He also hinted a possibility of partnerships with existing chip manufacturers through discussions with multiple players.
This is not the first time that Chandrasekharan has expressed the group's willingness to enter into semiconductor manufacturing.
Pegging the market opportunity of high-tech manufacturing of electronics at USD 1 trillion, Chandrasekaran had said Tata Group had already set up a business to seize the opportunity. (KNN Bureau)
