10 Million Rooftop Solar Installations Targeted PM Suryodaya Yojana

New Delhi, Jan 23 (KNN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of the Pradhanmantri Suryodaya Yojana (PSY), with the goal of installing rooftop solar power systems in 10 million households nationwide, on Monday.

Modi, highlighting that the scheme aims not only to reduce electricity bills for the poor and middle class but also to enhance India's energy self-reliance, presided over a meeting.

The meeting included senior officials from both the PM office and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

During the meeting, PM Modi urged officials to initiate a widespread national campaign to encourage residential consumers to adopt rooftop solar on a large scale.

The approach of a solar rooftop system involves an upfront capital investment with minimal maintenance costs, varying depending on the size, capacity, and components of the solar photovoltaic panel and battery.

The government currently operates a National Rooftop Scheme, providing financial assistance equivalent to 40 per cent of the capital cost for solar rooftop projects.

To address instances of fraud, where unauthorised rooftop solar companies or vendors claimed ministry authorisation, the government recently issued notices clarifying that no vendor had been authorised.
