Centre Awards 12 Pilot Projects for 70 Hydrogen-Powered Vehicles Under Green Hydrogen Mission

New Delhi, Jul 30 (KNN) The Government has awarded 12 pilot projects under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) for deploying 70 hydrogen-powered vehicles across 21 routes, comprising 27 buses and 43 trucks, along with 16 hydrogen refuelling stations in different states.

The information was submitted by Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. The projects have been sanctioned financial assistance of approximately Rs 410.77 crore, of which Rs 41.582 crore has been released.

The pilot projects include Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (H₂-ICE) vehicles. Under the projects, implementing agencies are required to submit regular performance reports covering vehicle efficiency, fuel consumption, safety and utilisation.

The projects are being implemented in two phases. Phase I comprises five projects with total sanctioned viability gap funding of  Rs 207.91 crore, covering 10 buses and 27 trucks across routes in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

Phase II comprises seven projects with sanctioned viability gap funding of  Rs 202.86 crore, covering 17 buses and 16 trucks across routes in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

The performance data and operational experience from the pilot projects will be used to assess the techno-economic viability of hydrogen-based mobility solutions and support future policy interventions and deployment of hydrogen-powered vehicles.
