GAIL Flags Off LNG Carrier ‘Energy Fidelity’ From US To Boost Supply Chain

New Delhi, Apr 22 (KNN) Government-owned GAIL (India) Limited has flagged off its LNG carrier Energy Fidelity from the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal, marking a step toward strengthening India’s cleaner fuel supply chain.

The vessel, with a carrying capacity of 174,000 cubic metres, was flagged off on April 20 and is currently en route to India. The ceremony was presided over by D C Manjunath, India’s Consul General in Houston.

He said, "This ceremony symbolises the robust and growing India-US energy partnership, a relationship built on the shared priorities of reliability, innovation, and long-term security," adding that the initiative also aligns with India’s focus on the ‘3Ts’ — Trade, Technology and Tourism, reported PTI.

Advanced Technology for Cleaner Transport

According to the company, Energy Fidelity is designed with advanced features such as air lubrication systems and specialised propulsion technology, aimed at improving efficiency and reducing carbon emissions during long-distance voyages.

A company official told PTI, "This advanced LNG carrier stands as a testament to India's growing strength in building a robust, future-ready energy ecosystem," adding that the vessel supports a more resilient and sustainable energy logistics network.

Supporting India’s Energy Transition

The deployment is aligned with India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which seeks to build a modern and sustainable maritime fleet while accelerating the transition toward a gas-based economy.

GAIL said the LNG carrier will play a crucial role in ensuring a reliable supply of cleaner fuel, contributing to the country’s broader goals of energy security and sustainable economic growth.
