PM Surya Ghar Scheme Covers 26 Lakh Households; Rs 14,771 Crore Disbursed
New Delhi, Feb 3 (KNN) More than 26 lakh households across the country have benefited under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) as of December 2025, with the Centre disbursing Rs 14,771 crore as central financial assistance.
Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik, in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, said the scheme, launched in February 2024, is a demand-driven initiative that allows residential consumers with grid-connected electricity connections to install rooftop solar (RTS) systems through the national portal.
According to official data, 20.85 lakh rooftop solar systems have been installed nationwide, benefiting 26.14 lakh households so far.
Gujarat recorded the highest number of installations at over 5.15 lakh systems, followed by Maharashtra with nearly 3.92 lakh and Uttar Pradesh with over 3.26 lakh installations. Kerala, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh were also among the leading states in scheme implementation.
In terms of central financial assistance, Gujarat received Rs 3,845.60 crore, Maharashtra Rs 2,787.59 crore, and Uttar Pradesh Rs 2,234.63 crore.
Overall, cumulative central assistance released under the scheme stood at Rs 14,771.82 crore as of December 31, 2025.
The government estimates that rooftop solar installations in one crore households could generate around 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity over their lifetime, potentially reducing carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by about 720 million tonnes over 25 years.
The scheme is a key component of India’s strategy to promote decentralised renewable energy adoption, reduce household electricity costs, and advance long-term climate and energy transition objectives.
