Establishment of Defence Innovation Fund will promote innovation in defence sector: MoD official

New Delhi, Nov 21 (KNN) Establishment of Defence Innovation Fund (DIF) will promote innovation in defence sector, said Ajay Kumar, Secretary, Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence.

He said “DIF is aimed at creation of an ecosystem to foster innovation and technology development in Defence and Aerospace by engaging the industry, MSMEs, start-ups, individual innovators, R&D institutions and the academia.”

He was delivering a lecture to the participants of the Armed Forces Programme (AFP) on iDex: Innovation for Defence Excellence.

Kumar stressed on the need for promoting indigenous capability in defence sector.

He pointed out that since software is India's strength, the country can leverage this strength ‘to create technology for the world.’

Launched in April 2018, Innovation for Defence Excellence (iDEX) targets to create an ecosystem for 200 start-ups in defence and aerospace technology in the first year of its operation.
