Even one month after demonetization, no ‘Achhe Din’ for farmers: BKU

New Delhi, Dec 8 (KNN) Even a month after the government made an announcement on demonetization, the farmers still seem to be unhappy with the government over its decision, which they say, has ended “Achhe Din” for them.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the half yearly review of Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for phosphate and potassium (P&K) fertilisers for the year.

Furthermore, the Committee also reached a decision to keep the current subsidy rates of nitrogen, phosphorus, potash and sulphur based fertilizers for the next 6 months.

Refusing to comment on this, the farmers associations are asking the government to clear the mess created due to cash-less system first and then talk about other initiatives.

Rishipal Ambawata, President, Bhartiya Kissan Union, told KNN, “Today farmers are suffering the most in the country and the decision is not at all in favour of the farmers. We are not facing Achhe Din at all.”

He said while on one side government is announcing schemes for the farmers but on the other side demonetization is intruding the farmers in to the ground.

“Thousands of crores of rupees is spent by their party members but farmers are compelled to stand in the queues to get his own money,” added Ambawata.

On making India a cashless society by substituting cash with digital payment gateway, Amabwat said first government needs to make proper arrangements rather than building castle in the air.

“In the past, farmers used to take money from the commission but if we will go cashless then how commission would give the money to the farmers,” he added.

Ambawat said in a country where major section of ageing population is illiterate, uneducated, how can the government take such decisions which was bound to hit back. (KNN/ RAS)
