Existing schemes for steel industry should be continued, clusters for MSMEs should be formed by new govt post-election: Steel re-rollers

New Delhi, Apr 2 (KNN) Appreciating the efforts taken by the present government to promote steel industry, All India Steel Re-Rollers Association shared expectations with KNN India from the party which forms the government after polls.

President of All India Steel Re Rollers Association, Vinod Vashisht expects government to continue the existing policies like National Steel Policy 2017 as it will build a globally competitive industry and will also increase per capita steel consumption.

He said, “Government has also been working for the betterment of steel Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), so I expect government to focus more on availability of raw materials and adoption of energy efficient technologies which will encourage small and medium iron and steel making units.”

He further added that this will helps in self-sufficiency in steel production and will provide guidance to private manufacturers and MSME steel producers.

Speaking more about his expectations from the government, Vashisht said that the government should also promote cluster based approach particularly in MSME steel sector for easy availability of raw materials and economies of scale.

Talking about the refund policy of Goods and Services Tax (GST) he said that there is also a need for this mechanism to work properly so that it can help the industry grow and solve the issues related to it.

Earlier KNN India reported that Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India requested government to introduce price control mechanism and come out with a steel policy or metal policy.

The Process Plant and Machinery Association of India (PPMAI) earlier while talking to KNN expressed concern at surge of imports especially of metals and capital goods from countries including Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia and Japan with whom India has signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). (KNN/JM)
