New Delhi, Apr 29 (KNN) In order to boost the country's exports, the government has setup a six-member inter-ministerial committee that will encourage the country's 40 per cent contributer of exports-the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).

The committee, headed by Finance Secretary R S Gujral, will help in formulating measures that would increase exports from the MSME sector in order to reduce the widening trade gap.

The committee will recommend both short and long term measures and will submit the same by mid-May.

The MSME sector contributes about 40 per cent to the country’s total exports and over eight per cent to India’s GDP.

Following the global slowdown, India’s exports declined by about two per cent to USD 300.5 billion in 2012-13 which was much below the USD 360 billion targeted at the beginning of the year.

The other members of the committee are Commerce Secretary ISR Rao, Revenue Secretary Sumit Bose, MSME Secretary Madhav Lal, Financial Services Secretary Rajiv Takru and Chief Economic Adviser Raghuram Rajan. (KNN)
