Anti-Dumping Probe On Chinese Fasteners Dropped For Lack Of Evidence

New Delhi, Feb 13 (KNN) The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), India's commerce ministry investigation arm, has concluded its anti-dumping investigation into Chinese fastener imports, announcing its termination due to insufficient evidence.

The investigation covered a wide range of fasteners, including screws, bolts, nuts, concrete nails, industrial staple pins, steel strapping seals, plastic strip nails, and cable clip nails, which are essential components in construction, automotive, and other industrial sectors.

The DGTR's final findings revealed a critical lack of data necessary to establish evidence of dumping practices and injury to domestic manufacturers.

The investigation, which was uniquely initiated by the directorate itself in September 2023 rather than through the typical route of domestic producer complaints, aimed to protect India's MSME sector from potentially unfair trade practices.

The self-initiated nature of the investigation reflected the DGTR's proactive approach to supporting fragmented industries that may lack familiarity with trade remedy procedures.

In international trade, dumping occurs when products are exported at prices below their normal value in the target market, potentially harming domestic industries.

Anti-dumping investigations in India are conducted by the DGTR as a quasi-judicial body to ensure fair trade practices and maintain a level playing field for domestic producers.
