APEDA Boosts Karnataka Mango Exports with First Air Shipment to Maldives

New Delhi, Jul 31 (KNN) The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the first air shipment of Neelam and Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka to the Maldives, with the consignment flagged off on July 30, 2026.

The one-metric-tonne consignment comprised Neelam and Totapuri mangoes sourced directly from farmers associated with M/s Prakruthimaya Farmers Producer Company Ltd. in KGF Taluk, Kolar district, Karnataka. The shipment was exported by Ashwini A, Director of M/s Ahalya Devi Ventures.

The consignment was flagged off by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev, IAS. The shipment involved farmers, a Farmer Producer Company and an exporter, with the mangoes aggregated directly from participating farmers.

Neelam and Totapuri are late-season mango varieties, with harvesting generally taking place from late June to the end of July. Neelam is known for its sweet pulp and aroma, while Totapuri is used for both fresh consumption and processing.

Farmers associated with the Farmer Producer Company received more than 50 per cent higher returns through the export initiative compared with conventional market channels, according to the information provided.

APEDA is working with state governments, exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations, Farmer Producer Companies and other stakeholders on agricultural export infrastructure and market access for Indian horticultural products.
