Commerce Ministry To Launch E-Connect Platform For Small Exporters

New Delhi, Jun 22 (KNN) The Indian Commerce Ministry is set to introduce an e-connect platform aimed at providing small exporters with crucial information on duties and other trade-related matters, a senior official announced on Friday.

The initiative is part of the government's efforts to promote ease of doing business through digitisation and streamlined procedures.

Director General of Foreign Trade Santosh Kumar Sarangi, speaking at an event organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) in Kolkata, stated, "The e-connect portal will offer a one-stop solution for exporters seeking information on trade, tariffs, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, and market intelligence."

Sarangi highlighted the significant potential in e-commerce exports, noting that the Directorate General of Foreign Trade has established partnerships with various marketing platforms and logistics companies to support exporters, particularly those in Tier II and III cities.

FIEO President Ashwani Kumar expressed optimism about export performance, projecting overall exports to exceed USD 900 billion in the current fiscal year.

However, FIEO Regional Chairman Yogesh Gupta raised concerns about the impact of the Red Sea crisis on exports, citing increased freight rates and reduced competitiveness. Gupta called for government strategies to address these challenges.

Additionally, Gupta emphasised the need to resolve infrastructure and operational issues affecting timely release of goods on the Bangladesh side, given the significant export volume from India's eastern region to Bangladesh.

The announcement of the e-connect platform underscores the government's commitment to supporting small exporters and enhancing India's position in global trade through technological advancements and simplified processes.
