India Explores Green Channel For Ecommerce Exports

New Delhi, Jan 8 (KNN) India is exploring the creation of a green channel for exports, drawing inspiration from China's cross-border e-commerce-integrated pilot zones.

Discussions between the commerce department and the revenue department are underway to simplify procedures for e-commerce exports and expedite the shipment process, as reported by ET on Monday.

The initiative involves the development of e-commerce export zones near airports, ensuring faster export clearances.

These designated zones will feature essential facilities such as warehouses, returns processing centres, facilities for licensing and customs clearance.

"Preliminary talks are on with the revenue department to see what kind of ecosystem and regulatory environment can be put in place to facilitate e-commerce exports," stated an official in the report.

This becomes particularly significant as India has established an ambitious target of achieving USD 1 trillion in merchandise exports by 2030, requiring an annual export growth rate of 12.2 per cent.

The establishment of these export hubs is poised to be advantageous for e-commerce companies and individuals engaged in selling products through social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook.

China has already implemented cross-border pilot zones to streamline customs procedures and facilitate the swift movement of shipments.

Indian officials are actively studying this model as they consider the establishment of similar zones to enhance efficiency in customs processes and expedite the movement of cross-border shipments.

Additionally, these special zones are anticipated to be equipped with scanning machines, further enhancing the ability to expedite and fast-track the processing of shipments.

The official explained "A green channel for exports is in development, featuring detailed packaging, labelling, and destination information.”

He further added “The inclusion of scanning machines aims to fast-track shipments and there's a focus on implementing just-in-time clearance for increased efficiency."
