India Exports Gasoline To Russia For First Time, 350,000-Barrel Shipment Arrives

New Delhi, Aug 13 (KNN) India has exported gasoline to Russia for the first time, with a shipment of around 350,000 barrels arriving in Moscow on August 5, according to maritime intelligence firm Kpler.

The tanker carrying the fuel departed from Vadinar port in Gujarat in June. At least two more shipments, each carrying around 325,000 barrels of gasoline, are expected to reach Russia by the end of August, according to the data.

Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said in July that Russian buyers may have purchased Indian-origin fuel through traders, while ruling out any direct purchases by Indian companies, reported Business Standard.

Russia Turns To Fuel Imports Amid Refinery Disruptions

Russia is a net exporter of crude oil, gasoil and gasoline. However, intensified Ukrainian attacks on its energy infrastructure have disrupted domestic refining capacity, resulting in fuel shortages, particularly gasoline, and increased reliance on imports to meet domestic demand.

Nayara Energy’s Vadinar Refinery Linked To Shipments

Vadinar port is operated by Nayara Energy, in which Russian state-controlled oil major Rosneft holds a 49.13 per cent stake. Nayara Energy operates a refinery with an annual capacity of 20 million tonnes.

The company has relied on traders to source crude oil and export refined products since the European Union imposed sanctions in July 2025.

Ship-To-Ship Transfers Raise Sanctions Scrutiny

According to Kpler, the product tankers that departed from Vadinar later carried out ship-to-ship transfers off Damietta, Egypt. Such transfers can be used by traders to limit exposure to sanctions-related scrutiny.
