India Unveils Export Expansion Strategy Targeting 20 Key Nations
New Delhi, Feb 12 (KNN) The government has announced a comprehensive export expansion strategy focusing on 20 strategic countries and specialised sectors in both commodities and services, as disclosed in a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
The initiative encompasses major economic partners including Australia, Brazil, China, France, and other significant markets across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha that Indian diplomatic missions in these target nations participated in a coordinated meeting last month to strengthen export capabilities.
The complete list of focus countries includes established trade partners such as the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany, alongside emerging markets like Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
The strategic initiative introduces innovative digital solutions to boost export growth.
A new Data Analytics Portal is being developed to identify emerging market opportunities, while an 'E-connect Portal' will provide market access information specifically designed for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
These digital platforms aim to streamline trade operations and reduce logistical barriers for Indian exporters.
The government has also directed its overseas missions to promote the One District One Product (ODOP) program in their respective countries. This initiative aims to improve product branding, enhance market access, and increase farmer income through expanded export opportunities.
The strategy demonstrates a focused approach to agricultural exports and rural economic development.
In related developments, Prasada provided insights into India's start-up ecosystem, revealing that 157,706 entities had received official recognition as start-ups from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) as of December 31, 2024.
However, he noted that 5,063 of these recognised start-ups have ceased operations, according to Ministry of Corporate Affairs records.
